Project Management Assessment

What is the Project Management Assessment?

An Assessment is not a sales call.  It is an opportunity for Allin and Microsoft to gain objective insight into your project management processes and related IT platforms.  It is a one-half to one day onsite session facilitated by Allin, who will conduct an interactive session with key members of your firm that are interested in business process efficiency gains and higher employee productivity.

After conducting the onsite session, Allin will deliver a report with findings and recommendations to help you get the most of your Project Management initiative.  The Assessment will help you identify industry best practices that may be appropriate for your firm, identify relevant software tools and applications that could increase efficiency and reduce redundancy, and assist you in developing a long-term vision that meets your specific business needs.

The assessment will be customized to your firm’s specific needs, but will include many of the following topics:

  • Enterprise project management features in Microsoft Project 2003 and Project Server
  • Project portfolio performance and reporting
  • Project management processes and tools
  • Team Collaboration
  • Resource planning and management
  • Implementation and training strategies

Would you benefit from the Project Management Assessment?
Are any of these questions relevant to your firm?

  • Can I quickly review the status of all of my projects and manage them by exception?
  • How can I do what-if analysis across my project portfolio?  What impact will my company’s acquisition have on my team and project portfolio?
  • How can I tell if my staff is over or under utilized?  Do I have justification to hire additional staff?
  • Can I integrate my project data with my ERP system?
  • Why is each project managed differently?  Why can’t I share information across projects?
  • Can I have project team members contribute to projects without having to license them with Microsoft Project?

Project management procedures have historically relied on a combination of manual processes and stand-alone applications to manage projects and resources.  As the marketplace becomes more and more competitive and customers equally as demanding, it is increasingly important that organizations automate and optimize their project portfolio and resource utilization.  This investment will provide increase visibility and insight into key organizational performance metrics that previously had been difficult, if not impossible, to track.

Allin’s Project Management Assessment will provide you with guidance on how to:

  • Optimize your project portfolio - Compare and contrast projects to make the right project investments and understand your risks
  • Control project delivery costs - Control project planning and execution to increase resource productivity and reduce costs
  • Maximize employee value - Maximize the return on employees' and contractors' time and skills to increase utilization and value

What are the deliverables of the Assessment?

Allin will present our written report to your organization that will summarize the findings of the Assessment, including:

  • A description of your existing project management processes
  • An outline of areas for greatest ROI and suggestions for improving your project management processes, and leveraging your existing technology
  • Positioning of Microsoft technologies that will help address specific needs and pains uncovered in the Assessment
  • A summary of the benefits your organization will realize with technology improvements and next step recommendations for improved efficiency and profitability
  • A list of the steps needed to implement these technologies to allow your company to move forward with creating a detailed implementation plan

What investments are required?
Only the time of relevant personnel will be needed during the Assessment.  Before the onsite survey, senior executives in your organization are expected to have approved the engagement.  Although encouraged to participate in these assessments, it is not necessary that these executives be involved in the assessment.

We expect that you will need to dedicate several knowledgeable functional experts proficient in your project management processes.    A senior IT member who is knowledgeable of your current systems and supporting platforms should also be present.  The participants should be available for the duration of the on-site visit.

Cost
Allin and Microsoft will fund this Assessment, at no cost to you.  Contact your Allin Account Manager.
